Shoosh (Susa)
Shoosh is one of the oldest cities in the Middle
east. Civilization in this area dates back to at least 3000 B.C.
In December 24th 1972, the first statue of an
Achaemenian King was discovered in Shoosh. Engravings on its base
revealed that it was Darius himself. The inscription reads " This
is the stone statue that king Darius got made in Egypt so that those who
saw it should know that the Persia has conquered Egypt". The statue
is 2.5 meters high. Unfortunately its head is missing.
