Ancient Torah &
Tomb of Esther
This carefully
preserved torah is kept inside a cave-like tomb believed to house the remains
of the biblical Queen Esther and her foster father Mordecai. Esther
married the Achaemenian King Artaxerxes, and with Mordecai, pleaded for
the tolerance and protection of her fellow Jews in exile.
There has been a Jewish
community in Hamedan since at least Sassanian times.
